An Observation

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Watching Disney’s “Peter Pan” with Caleb while Owen & Grandpa take much-needed naps, I am surprised at the political incorrectness of a childhood fave.   The depiction  of Native  Americans in caricature and dialect is pretty bad, and makes Cleveland’s Chief Wahoo mascot look practically complimentary.  I haven’t mentioned anything to Caleb, since he hasn’t reacted or commented, but I feel some moderate culture shock.   The parents won’t have to worry that next time I’ll rent “Song of the South” for the grandsons’ viewing pleasure.  This was icky enough.

Speaking of culture shock, I got my Golden Buckeye Card in the mail today.  Goody.

Today was the “big surprise”!

It was a ride on a REAL TRAIN!!!   I think Caleb and Owen enjoyed it very much.   Caleb was especially happy that he wasn’t going to LION TAMER SCHOOL — as promised by Grandma.   Here are a few snapshots and a couple short videos.

Fun with the Grandsons

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

We’re enjoying the first “sans parents” overnight visit by Caleb and Owen.   We’ve burned some coal (cool to see a rock burn even though we contributed to global warming), ridden the bus downtown and back (back the long way — don’t ask), and watched Peter Pan (the original Disney cartoon).   Tomorrow is the special surprise for them!

Here are a few snapshots from the visit.
