Evil Easter Feast
Monday, April 25th, 2011Gained 4 pounds in two days! Thanks, Paska. Thanks, Kielbasa. Thanks, Ham. Thanks, Bunny Cake. Argh! Who started these traditions, and can he/she be sued? Great weekend, though. Enjoyed every minute.

Easter was a lot of fun this year. Weather was wonderful, and everyone arrived safely. Caleb and Owen lit up the house . . . at quarter ’til seven each morning, which Jenn says is their routine. On Saturday, we had a video chat with Jeff, Anna-Marie and Sebastian. We wish they could have been here in person, but it was great to see Sebastian, Caleb and Owen greeting and entertaining each other on screen (we’re counting down ’til we’re all together this summer). That evening, after Ma had spent the day preparing food for Sunday, we went to a Hibachi restaurant for dinner. The boys (especially Owen) were a little leery at first, but the chef’s clowning put them at ease. They seem to enjoy their meal, even though it was a little later than usual, and they indicated they’d be willing to go back there. On Easter morning, they were so excited to search for hidden eggs and their baskets. They even sneaked an early peek to make sure the Easter Bunny had visited; we think it was just before wake up, but it could have been earlier. Now the house is quiet, and we’re observing a day of rest and recovery and warm memories.
Spring arrived this week, and tomorrow is Easter. What a great time of year. While those living in the south may chide us for sticking around a place that can be pretty cold and gloomy for a few months in the winter, spring’s arrival makes up for all that. Who better appreciates the spring warmth and sunshine, the sounds of birds in the morning, the trees and flowers bursting forth, than someone who’s experienced a few months of the cold, monochrome prison that is winter?
And this year, we get extra bonuses as winter turns to spring . . . turns to winter . . . turns to spring . . . turns to winter . . . s h i t !
OK, we’re having a spring “winter storm”!
We’ll, we’ve gone from a sunny 75 degrees and mowing grass on Tuesday to 24 degrees and snow flurries today (Thursday). It’s all part of the wonder of Spring in Ohio.
Ma’s ready for Easter with a fridge full of food and 12 Paska in the freezer. We’re both looking forward to Mike, Jenn & Caleb’s visit this weekend.   Wish Jeff, Anna-Marie & Sebastian could be here too — we’ll have to wait a few more months for that.
I managed to clear some trash from the basement — five boxes of old receipts, bank statements, etc. to the commercial shredder (the fireplace was too slow, and the home model shredder was overwhelmed) and a box of computer pieces parts to the hazardous waste collection site. That’s the extent of my Spring cleaning so far.
